Year 4

There are two Year 4 classes this year. Mr. Greet teaches full time in 4G with support from Mrs. Pope.  Mrs. Sales teaches in 4S with support from Mrs. Bool.

Autumn

 Autumn Overview

This Autumn, Year 4 will inspire curiosity as they read The Witches and persuasive texts, study states of matter and electricity in science, and investigate Portland shipwrecks in history. Maths will cover place value, addition, subtraction, fractions, and shapes. Geography will explore where food comes from, and art will develop painting and mixed media skills. Pupils will learn coding, French role play, and teamwork in PE, and believe in themselves as they achieve through experiences like the Portland Museum visit and Christmas performances.

Spring

Spring Overview

 Year 4 will inspire each other this Spring as they explore Ancient Greece, rivers, and animals including humans. English lessons include Greek myths, while maths covers place value, area, perimeter, and decimals. Pupils will design pavilions in DT, create William Morris art, and code using Logo. Their Greek theme day and RE virtual visit will help them believe in themselves and achieve confidently.

Summer

Summer Overview

This Summer, Year 4 will inspire ambition as they study the Vikings, rainforests, sound, and habitats. English includes The Butterfly Lion and Beowulf. Maths will cover fractions, decimals, area, perimeter, and angles, plus the national multiplication check. Pupils will design pavilions, create sculptures, and learn French weather phrases. Their Ancient Technology Centre sleepover, swimming, and Sports Day will help them believe in their abilities and achieve ready for Year 5.
