Autumn

Autumn Overview

This term, Year 2 will inspire each other through texts like The Gorilla and Katie Morag, learning to write instructions and stories. Maths will build confidence in place value, addition, subtraction, and shapes. In science, they will explore materials and habitats, while history will focus on Mary Seacole’s life. Geography learning will compare hot and cold places, and art will develop design skills. Pupils will grow in PE, music, and computing, and believe in themselves as they achieve success in the Nativity and Harvest Festival.

Spring

Spring Overview

Year 2 will inspire curiosity as they explore the Great Fire of London, habitats, and coastlines. English will include The Dragon Machine and poetry, while maths will cover number operations, angles, turns, and statistics. Pupils will design moving monsters in DT, create story art, and learn coding skills. Enrichment includes the fire station visit, games day, and Easter celebrations, helping them believe in themselves and achieve confidently.

Summer

Summer Overview

This Summer, Year 2 will inspire each other through texts like Tinga Tinga Tales and Ignis. Maths will build skills in multiplication, fractions, time, and SATs revision. Science will explore sound, and history will study castles. Pupils will design clay houses, learn about healthy wraps in DT, and study oceans and landmarks in geography. Swimming, Forest School, and a Corfe Castle trip will help them believe in themselves and achieve ready for Key Stage 2.
