Year 6
There are three Year 6 classes this year. Mr. Barter teaches in 6B with support from Mrs. Porter, Mrs. Restorick teaches in 6R and is supported by Mrs. Souster and Mr. Carter teaches in 6C and is supported by Mrs. Wilson.
Autumn
This Autumn, Year 6 will inspire confidence as they prepare for their final year at St George’s. English will include texts such as Treasure Island and The Polar Express, while maths will consolidate place value, calculation, and fractions ready for SATs. In science, pupils will study electricity and the circulatory system, and in history, they will explore Portland’s heritage. DT will involve bridge building, and art will study local architecture. PE, French, computing, and music will enrich their learning, helping them believe in themselves and achieve success before moving on to secondary school.
year 6
Spring
This Spring, Year 6 will inspire confidence as they read texts including Goodnight Mr Tom, Anne Frank’s Diary, and The Wretched Stone. Maths will prepare them for SATs with algebra, ratio, and problem solving. Science covers electricity and the human body. History will explore WWII’s local impact, and DT will include wartime cooking and sewing. Art studies Henry Moore and WWII design, while music links to Matilda and wartime jazz. Trips and theme days will help them believe in their strengths and achieve before summer assessments.
Summer
Please see the school transition poster below:Year 6 will inspire ambition in their final term, reading Kensuke’s Kingdom and My Brother is a Superhero, consolidating learning ready for secondary school. Maths will consolidate core knowledge then apply problem solving for transition. Science explores living things and classification. Geography will study population, while art focuses on installation pieces. DT includes shelter building, and computing will cover online safety, spreadsheets, and binary. In French, pupils will learn WWII vocabulary. Sailing, Carey Camp, and transition events will help them believe in themselves and achieve confidently as they prepare for Year 7
