Year 5
There are two Year 5 classes this year. Mrs. Roberts teaches full time in 5R with support from Mrs. Biggs. Mr. Wilson teaches in 5W and is supported by Mrs. Craft.
Autumn
Year 5 will inspire ambition as they study forces in science, the Maya civilisation in history, and oceans in geography. English will include The Iron Man and The Highwayman, while maths will cover place value, fractions, decimals, and angles. Pupils will create portraits in art, cook nutritious meals in DT, and build word processing skills in computing. PE will develop football, basketball, and fitness skills. They will believe in their talents and achieve success through enrichment like Forest School, beach fieldwork, and Christmas celebrations.

Spring
Year 5 Spring Half Termly Overview
This Spring, Year 5 will inspire ambition as they explore Shakespeare texts including Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, moving to Matilda and Zombie Apocalypse writing. Maths will cover rounding, multiplication, division, mass, fractions, decimals, percentages, and shape translation. Pupils will study Earth and Space, then materials and changes in science. DT will involve designing stuffed toys, and art will explore the Space Race. They will believe in their abilities through enrichment like Forest School and a Qinetiq science trip, helping them achieve confidently.
Summer
Year 5 will inspire curiosity this Summer with texts such as The Piano, Flotsam, and Moonfleet. Maths will consolidate decimals, fractions, percentages, shapes, and investigations. Science covers lifecycles and habitats, while geography explores energy sources and coasts. Art will focus on architecture, and DT will include cams to make moving toys. Pupils will develop 3D modelling and coding skills in computing, and enjoy enrichment like Forest School, a beach visit, and Sports Day, helping them believe in themselves and achieve success ready for Year 6.
